Il a fait beau à Katmandou ce matin mais ça n'a pas duré. La pluie est à nouveau de la partie ce qui inquiète un peu les alpinistes qui doivent voler demain matin pour Lukla (1 heure de vol pour se poser sur un des terrains les plus dangereux du monde).

Il partiront de leur Hôtel "Holy Himalaya" vers 5h30 pour un vol censé décoller à 7h30... Autre inquiétude : le poids des sacs, en théorie sur les lignes intérieurs le poids autorisé est de 11 kilos ! Leurs sacs doivent faire le double.
A Lukla porte de départ de l'Everest ils retrouveront 9 porteurs qui chemineront avec eux jusqu'au camp de base ; ils sont venus depuis un autre village "phaphlu" à pied. Les 52 autres porteurs prennent un itinéraire différent depuis le village de Tumingtar où ils se sont rendus en bus. Suspens !

Bien comprendre que le vol de Lukla se fait "à vue" et qu'au moindre nuage sur la piste les avions (essentiellement des Twins Otters) ne peuvent atterrir. C'est Sir Edmund Hillary (l'homme de l'Everest) qui a fait construire cet aéroport à l'origine en terre battue et c'est sur ce même aéroport que sa femme et sa fille ont trouvé la mort en s'écrasant en avion.

At Lukla which is the gate to the Everest they will find 9 porters who will walk with them to the base camp; they walked from another village "phaphlu" . The other 52 carriers take a different route from the village of Tumingtar which they reached by bus. Suspense! They will leave their hotel "Holy Himalaya" around 5:30 for a flight supposed to take off at 7:30 ... Another concern: the weight of the bags ! in theory, on the interior lines the authorized weight is 11 kilos! Their bags certainly weigh twice as much.
Fingers crossed for a fine weather...
Please understand that the flight to Lukla means “navigating visually” and that should there be the slightest cloud on the runway , planes (mainly Twins Otters) cannot land. This originally clay track airport was built by Sir Edmund Hillary (the Everest man) and it was on that same airport that his wife and daughter were killed in a plane crash.
